What is proofreading?
Proofreading is the reading of galley proof or an electronic copy of a publication to identify and correct text or art. Proofreading is the final step in the editorial cycle before publication.
What kind of issues identifies and correct during proofreading?
By the time the document was ready to be read again, it should have been edited already. This means that its content must be well-organized, well-written, and easily understood. Editing includes remove errors but focuses on making sure the text is completely logical.
Readings, on the other hand, are about finding small and large errors that are missed or presented during editing. Proofreaders check that the final draft of the document is free of grammatical errors (eg, object-verb problems, incorrect word choice, use of incorrect punctuation, and incorrect spelling) and formatting and typographical errors. They also ensure that the document adheres to the chosen style guide.
